The Owojori Network Consult has called on the Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, to address the pressing challenges facing Nigeria’s aviation sector while building on the foundation laid by his predecessor, Hadi Sirika.

In a statement, the Country Director, Alhaji Lawal O. Bayero, emphasized that while Keyamo is still in the early stages of his tenure, his leadership holds promise for advancing the sector if immediate challenges are effectively tackled.

Bayero noted that Sirika’s tenure (2015–2023) saw key achievements, including infrastructure upgrades, regulatory reforms, and the Nigeria Air initiative, despite delays and criticisms around project execution and stakeholder engagement.

He highlighted Keyamo’s focus on supporting local airlines, improving operational capacities, and advancing ongoing initiatives like the national carrier project. However, Bayero pointed out that high operational costs, fluctuating fuel prices, and regulatory hurdles remain significant challenges that require urgent attention.

“Keyamo must demonstrate proactive leadership to address these industry concerns. While Sirika had a substantial impact in infrastructure development, Keyamo must prioritize transparency, accountability, and stakeholder engagement to drive sustainable growth in the sector,” Bayero stated.

He advised Keyamo to carefully select his team and remain cautious of external influences that may undermine his goals.
