The Lagos State Labour Party (LP) Chairman, Pastor Dayo Ekong, has urged party members to remain committed and loyal, emphasizing that true loyalty is crucial for the survival and growth of the party.
Ekong made these remarks during a special End-of-Year reunion with the theme: “Bridging the Self-Inflicted Divide Within Our Ranks,” held in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
The event was attended by key party leaders, including Lagos Deputy Chairman Engr. Olasupo Ajayi, State Secretary Chief Sam Okpala, Head of Mobilization and Integration Pastor Funke Awolowo, and House of Assembly member representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency, Mrs. Stella Osafile. Others present included party leaders from the national and South-West zones, local government chairmen, their executives, ward chairmen, and party faithful.
In her address, Ekong highlighted the importance of unity, discipline, and loyalty:
“Today, we gather as one family under the umbrella of our shared values, collective aspirations, and unwavering commitment to the Labour Party. While disagreements and conflicts are natural in any political organization, how we manage and rise above these differences defines us.”
Acknowledging grievances within the party, she reassured members: “To those who have felt sidelined or undervalued, I say this: we are all together; we are all one. Our shared vision for a better Lagos and a stronger Labour Party must guide our actions.”
Ekong emphasized the need for discipline and adherence to party structures: “Discipline within our ranks is non-negotiable. Respecting party structures and upholding our constitution are vital. Members must address grievances through the proper channels, from the ward to the state level, and avoid resorting to public platforms for criticism.”
She also addressed the need to curb negativity and foster inclusivity: “We must stop the negativity and hate speech that erode our unity. It’s time to prioritize the active participation of women, youths, and persons living with disabilities in our structures and programs.”
Ekong stressed that loyalty is essential for the party’s survival: “True loyalty is not blind allegiance; it is unwavering commitment to shared goals, even when personal desires may differ from leadership decisions. Unity is our strength, and we must prioritize it above all else.”
She urged members to focus on contributing positively to the party’s growth: “This struggle is not about us or any selfish interest; it is about creating better communities and a better society for our children, born and unborn. Together, we can achieve greatness and transform our society.”
Ekong concluded by encouraging members to reflect on their contributions to the party and to work collectively to strengthen its unity: “Let this reunion mark a turning point toward a more united, disciplined, and inclusive Labour Party. Forward ever!”
The event underscored the Labour Party’s commitment to fostering unity, inclusivity, and discipline as it aims to strengthen its influence in Lagos State and beyond.
