Jos – The Plateau State Police Command has urged citizens to embrace peace and ensure a tranquil celebration of Christmas and the New Year.
The appeal comes in the wake of last year’s violent attacks in several communities, which led to dozens of fatalities and the displacement of thousands of residents. To prevent a recurrence, the Police, in consultation with stakeholders from affected areas, have imposed various restrictions during the festive period.
Plateau State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, announced that comprehensive security arrangements and strategic deployments have been made across all 17 Local Government Areas of the State to uphold peace.
To enhance safety, the following activities will be restricted in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Bokkos, and Mangu LGAs from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am daily, December 23, 2024, to January 3, 2025:
Night Grazing: Prohibited for herders.
Night Farming: Restricted for farmers.
Late-Night Beer Parlour Operations: Banned.
Night Mining Activities: Not permitted.
Commercial Motorcycles (Okada): Operations banned.
Additionally, there will be a total ban on commercial tricycles (Keke Napep) within the Jos/Bukuru Metropolis on December 25–26, 2024, and January 1, 2025. The longstanding ban on commercial motorcycles remains in effect.
The Command has deployed personnel to flashpoints and is working in close collaboration with the military, other security agencies, and local security groups to safeguard the State and its borders during the festivities.
The Commissioner of Police appealed to residents to comply with these restrictions and support security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace.
“Let us work together to ensure a safe and joyful celebration for everyone,” CP Adesina stated.
