BENIN CITY – A Benin socio-cultural group, Ogbakha-Edo Indigenous Peoples’ Welfare Foundation has assured the Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, of its support towards ensuring that he succeeds in his tenure.
The chairman of the group, Professor Sam Guobadia stated this when he led members of the organisation on a courtesy visit to Omoregie who was inaugurated as the 11th substantive Vice Chancellor of the University on December 2, 2024.
Guobadia said “We are glad and proud that Ogbakha-Edo platform is yours and you have always owned it by your actions. We also want to state without any doubt, as they say in America, that we got your back. I want to stress the fact that we are behind you day and night. It is like a morale booster for us, and we are celebrating.”
In an official letter to Professor Omoregie, the group said “Your vision, expertise, and passion for innovative education will undoubtedly propel the University of Benin to greater heights. Your commitment to fostering a conducive learning environment, promoting research, and enhancing community engagement will have a profound impact on students, faculty, and the broader academic community.
“As you embark on this new role, we wish you continued success, wisdom, and inspiration. Your leadership will be instrumental in shaping the future of the University of Benin and inspiring the next generation of leaders.
On his part, Professor Omoregie said he sees his appointment as a call to duty and that the group by its activities have sufficiently prepared him for the tasks ahead.
He told the group of his five point agenda and urged the group to monitor and track him to measure his performance.
Omoregie said his agenda include sustaining and improving on the academic profile of the University, making the university a training hub for skills acquisition, prioritising the welfare of students and staff, embarking on an aggressive infrastructure development and sustaining peaceful relations between management, students and host communities.
