Academy celebrates graduates, launches Alumni Network

Optimist Academy for Film and Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) marked a historic graduation ceremony for its Class of 2024, celebrating 15 students who completed specialized training in cinematography, film production, and multimedia technologies.

The event underscored the academy’s dedication to fostering creativity and excellence in Nigeria’s booming entertainment industry.

Speaking at the ceremony, founder Mr. Imagbenikaro Osarumwense praised the graduates for their hard work and encouraged them to embody the values of craftsmanship and excellence.

“You are the future of Nollywood and global creative industries. Use the skills and knowledge gained here to break barriers and tell powerful stories,” he said.

Raymond Etiosa, awarded Best Graduating Student, expressed gratitude for the academy’s support.

“This institution has given us more than technical skills; it has provided us with confidence and a vision for success,” he said.

A key highlight of the event was the launch of The Optimist Academy Nexus (TOAN), an alumni network designed to unite graduates and foster collaboration. “TOAN will empower our alumni to grow professionally, mentor others, and contribute meaningfully to the creative industry,” noted Osarumwense.

The year also featured significant milestones, including an international collaboration with Germany’s Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg for the production of Fragments of Tomorrow, a short film on sickle cell anemia.

The project showcased the talents of Optimist students in lighting, sound, and makeup and premiered at the Goethe-Institut in Lagos.

Looking ahead, the academy announced new initiatives, including a Women in Film Project and a Summer School for Creative Kids. These programs aim to inspire inclusivity and nurture young talent in Nigeria’s creative landscape.

As the graduates step into the industry, Optimist Academy reaffirms its commitment to bridging local talent with global opportunities.

“The creative world is watching, and our graduates are ready to lead,” Osarumwense concluded.
