The Matron of the Women in National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, NAGAFF, Princess Chi Ezeh, has condemned the humiliation of a female customs officer, an Assistant Comptroller by freight agents in a viral video in circulation on social media.
Recall that some freight agents and shippers at the Car Park C of Five Star Logistics Terminal, Tin Can Island Port, TCIP were seen to ridicule the Customs officer in a video which has been trending on social media for over a week.
Speaking on the development, Ezeh who doubles as the Managing Director of Muna Sylver Nigeria Limited condemned the act, saying it was disappointing and criticized the perpetrators for not seeking proper channels to express their displeasure.
She pointed out that Customs official or government officials should not be subjected to such ridicule, while also advising the freight forwarders to display conduct befitting of professionals.
She empathised with the AC, even as she encouraged her to take the unfair attack as a springboard to be more resilient and diligent in her career.
Also, the freight forwarder and Governing Board member of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria, CRFFN, described the victim as an upright officer whose insistence due processes and accurate duties led to the recent victimization against her personality.
“I found this development very appalling and I think such kind of actions in future should attract litigation. This is a Customs officer that is doing her job; but because she is upright people are victimizing her.
“The Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, and the TCIP customs leadership under Comptroller Dera Nnadi, should ensure that the AC does not suffer further harm on account of this development,” she said.
Meanwhile, NAGAFF Vice President, Seaports for Western Zone, advised freight forwarders to learn how to go about registering their complaints and not attacking customs officials.
