…Condemns Act, Calls It “Sad and Unfortunate”
By Henry Umoru
Senator Sani Musa, APC-Niger East and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, has called on the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, to urgently launch a comprehensive investigation into the recent arrest and detention of minors involved in protests against bad governance in Nigeria.
In a statement on Friday, Senator Musa strongly condemned the arrest and ongoing detention of the minors, calling it “unfortunate” and “deeply troubling.” He expressed concern that these young individuals, instead of receiving understanding and compassion, face detention for exercising their rights.
“I strongly condemn the unjust detention of minors following the #EndBadGovernance protests,” Senator Musa stated. “It is deeply troubling that, despite the hardships and challenges these young children have endured, there is a push to imprison them rather than afford them compassion and understanding. Such actions are not only inhumane but also unjust.”
Senator Musa further criticized the judicial stance supporting the minors’ detention, stating it was “entirely unacceptable and contrary to the principles of justice and fairness.” He urged the Inspector General of Police to investigate the matter immediately, holding accountable those responsible and protecting the rights of Nigeria’s youth.
“This issue must be addressed urgently,” he added. “I will continue to stand with my constituents and all Nigerians in the pursuit of justice and good governance.”
