Power Learn Project (PLP) has successfully graduated its 2024 Cohort in Nigeria. The graduates completed a 16 week program in digital skills and entrepreneurship to prepare them for self-reliance and global business competitiveness.
Ajo Balogun, Country Manager of PLP, and co-founder of Jobred (an employability skills toolkit) emphasized the initiative’s mission to equip young Africans with vital digital skills to thrive in the workplace. “Today was a huge milestone for us, as we also launched our PLP Talent Hub. With a goal to train one million developers and drive Africa’s digital future, our work shall carry on through an accelerator and talent hub”, she said.
Balogun highlighted that PLP goes beyond training, providing internship through its partners and support for startups and resources to succeed.
Esther Gatimu, Communications & Outreach Manager at PLP, explained that the organization provides decentralized training to youths across Africa. “We offer training in web development, databases, python and entrepreneurship to prepare them for in-demand jobs,” she said.
The graduates showcased their innovative projects, demonstrating the practical skills they acquired during the program.
Graduates such as Sylvester Chikwendu and Zaynab Salami, praised the program for its impact on their lives. “PLP has helped me upskill and gain more knowledge in tech,” Chikwendu said, while Zainab Salami added, “This training program can easily help youths secure employment or succeed in startups.”
Olaniyan Daniel, one of the first ever graduates, testified that the PLP training helped him develop valuable skills in python and web programming.
The graduation ceremony celebrated the achievements of the Cohort Class 2024 and recognized the stakeholders who supported them throughout their journey.
In attendance were members from LSETF who also represented a cohort of 4,000+ students, a representative of the Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos and several private sector tech ecosystem organisations and partners.
