Joseph Sarwuan Tarkaa University, formerly called Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, has emerged the maiden champions of Nigeria’s premier inter-collegiate football tournament, the Varsity Cup 2024.

In a thrilling final played at the University of Benin Sports Complex, Benin City, Edo State, JOSTUM defeated the University of Ilorin 3-2 after a dramatic penalty shootout to cart home the trophy.
The match had ended 1-1 in regulation time, giving way to an intense penalty shootout.
Three penalty saves by JOSTUM goalkeeper, Jacob Targema did not only guarantee his team the coveted trophy, but they also cemented his place in the history books as the Player of the Tournament(MVP).
He also emerged as the goalkeeper of the tournament.
JOSTUM’s road to the final began in the group stages where they dominated their group with victories over Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and Prince Abubakar Audu University, Ayingba. A hard-fought draw with eventual finalists, UNILORIN.
