The Ikoyi Golf Club is set to host the 49th Ladies Open Golf Tournament, which is billed to take place from November 13th to November 15th, 2024.
This year’s event promises to be a vibrant celebration of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, with a focus on inclusivity and charity.
With the theme “A Taste of Nigeria,” the tournament will showcase the country’s diverse cuisine, music and arts. Local and international golfers will have the opportunity to experience the beauty of Nigerian culture while competing in a world-class golf event.
Speaking during a press conference, Lady Captain Ikoyi Club 1938, Fatumata Soukouna Coker, expressed excitement about the upcoming event. She also highlighted the introduction and inclusion of Lady Pros in the tournament. “This event is not just a tournament. It’s also about celebrating professionalism, culture and inclusion. The theme is ‘A Taste of Nigeria’. We will be showcasing the vibrant cultural beauty of Nigeria and its various ethnic groups.” She said.
While reiterating the therapeutic benefits of the game, Co-Chair Nkoli Moka stated that the event is poised to attract top golfers from across Africa, including participants from Uganda and Kenya.
“Golf is not just about rolling balls on the ground. It does a lot for the people who play. We don’t just come here because we like to roll balls. We come here because we want the recreation. We want the camaraderie. It’s like a lifestyle. We come here for the therapy.”
On her part, the competition Secretary, Pat Ozoemene, stated that the upcoming golf tournament aims to elevate Nigeria’s status in the sport, with focus on empowering female players.
