Group urges Tinubu, IGP, NSCDC to remove checkpoints on East-West road

Says timbers, woods on the roads destroying vehicles

The Stand-Up South South Security Group (SSSSG), has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Inspector General of Police ( IGP) Kayode Egbetokun to immediately remove all checkpoints and roadblocks  on the East-West road.

It also urged Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, Commandant General, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to caution its officials who are allegedly collecting fuel from Driver Tankers along the East-West road.

In a statement on Sunday, the group said the over 30 checkpoints from Agbarho in Delta State to PH were constituting a nuisance and subjecting travelers and motorists to undue frustration.

The statement was issued on Sunday in Port Harcourt, by Comrade Dickson A Onisiru, Coordinator, Stand-Up South South Security Group.

The group however commended  the Nigerian Army for doing a good and providing adequate security on the East West road, preventing criminal activities on the major road.

It said the Police mounted unnecessary checkpoints with timbers and woods on the road that is destroying vehicles and causing accidents and aiding criminal activities.

“ The checkpoints are not dismantled at night when the Police have left the road, unfortunately, some criminals are using the undismantled checkpoints to commit crimes on the road at night”

The group accused the Police men for allegedly using the checkpoints to extort money from motorists plying the East West road.

The group further urged President Tinubu to hasten the completion of the East West road construction.
