Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Serving Overseer of Citadel Global Community, has called on Nigerians to actively support the education sector, emphasizing that education is a societal priority that requires the contributions of everyone, not just educators.

Bakare made this appeal while celebrating his 70th birthday with the inauguration of an Independent Power Project and Empowerment Fund at the Faculty of Law, University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Highlighting the far-reaching impact of education, Bakare quoted American educator Francis Campbell, saying, “Education is too important to be left solely to the educators.” He urged individuals to leverage not only financial resources but also influence to enhance the quality of education in Nigeria.

Reflecting on his journey, Bakare explained that the inspiration for this initiative stemmed from a long-standing commitment to education. “This journey began on my 50th birthday when I envisioned transforming my primary school into a modern institution. Then, on my 60th birthday, I extended that commitment to my secondary school, Lisabi Grammar School. Now, I am here, investing in the next generation at UNILAG.”

Bakare stressed that anyone, regardless of financial means, could contribute to education by influencing others. “It’s not just about money; your influence can change things, impact policy, and make a real difference. May you all become influential.”

Abiola Sanni, SAN, Dean of the Faculty of Law at UNILAG, expressed gratitude for Bakare’s support. While he did not disclose the overall cost of the power project, he noted that the estimated value was between N60-80 million. Additionally, Sanni announced that the two best graduating students would receive N250,000 each annually, thanks to the newly established Empowerment Fund.

“You, Pastor Bakare, have journeyed from this campus to become a global leader,” Sanni said. “Through this project, you are helping us advance and create a stable environment for learning. Our faculty will no longer experience power interruptions, ensuring that students benefit from uninterrupted electricity.”
