The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed six of its officers following disciplinary actions taken by the Lagos State Civil Service Commission (CSC) over various acts of misconduct.
The termination of their employment was based on recommendations from the Personnel Management Board in accordance with civil service rules and regulations. Formal disciplinary notices were issued to the officers at LASTMA’s Headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos.
The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, through the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, confirmed on Thursday that the CSC had fully endorsed the Board’s recommendations. The officers were dismissed for severe misconduct and inefficiencies in their duties.
Bakare-Oki emphasized LASTMA’s dedication to improving its operations and urged Lagos residents to collaborate with the agency by reporting misconduct, along with supporting evidence.
“This is part of an ongoing effort to purge the agency of errant officers,” he said. “Another Personnel Management Board session will soon be convened to address more implicated officials.”
He also reminded road users in Lagos to adhere strictly to traffic laws, warning that violations would be met with penalties, including fines, as enforced by the Lagos Mobile Courts in line with legal provisions.
The General Manager highlighted the importance of obeying traffic regulations to achieve the “Greater Lagos” vision outlined in Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus development agenda. “The first pillar, focusing on traffic management and transportation, is crucial for realizing this vision,” he noted.
Bakare-Oki reassured residents of LASTMA’s commitment to handling complaints fairly and efficiently. He encouraged the public to report issues through the toll-free hotline 080000527862 or visit the Walk-In Complaint Centre at LASTMA Headquarters, Oshodi.
He further emphasized the need for all motorists to comply with the State Transportation Sector Reform Law of 2018 while reassuring the public that their civil rights on Lagos roads would be protected.
