The Lagos State Government and the German Consulate in the state have lauded the Lightout High School Initiative on climate action and recycling in public schools.

Fielding questions from Newsmen on Monday, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Climate Change and Circular Economy, Mrs. Titi Oshodi, pointed out that the crucial role children play in sustainability and social transformation informed the governor’s support for the initiative. 

She said, “Their open-mindedness, influence on families and communities, and potential future leaders make them ideal environmental ambassadors and social change agents.

The convener of the initiatives, Akinade Ibuoye, also known as Gaise Baba, while commending the governor, said, “We’ve gone to federal government schools and other private schools. But it’s great to see Governor Sanwo-Olu and the German consulate believe in what we’re doing.

“We promote values like delayed gratification, telling young people that you don’t have to get rich quick; there is value in hard work, and the wealth that you build lasts longer that way’.

On her part, the Program Officer at the Consulate General of Germany in Lagos, Udochukwu Okeahialam, explained that the importance of recycling issues is not only critical for Nigeria but for the world.

“The Climate Action and Recycling Campaign Project aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals. So protecting our environment, improving our health, and promoting education are deeply interconnected challenges that require innovative, inclusive, and lasting solutions.”
