International civil society organization, Solidaridad, has inaugurated an upgraded oil palm mill in Ebighi Edu community, Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The mill aims to enhance efficiency in palm oil processing and production.
At the inauguration, Solidaridad’s Field Agronomist in Nigeria, Mr. Use Egong Owia, explained that the organization has set up two innovative oil mills in each of the benefitting states, including Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Enugu, and Kogi.
Owia highlighted the upgraded mill’s environmental friendliness and ease of operation, encouraging local oil palm farmers to utilize the facility. The mill features a hydraulic presser, sterilizer, and boiler, designed to extract more oil and reduce emissions.
The project was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which affected funding and implementation. Chief Okokon Antigha, former Secretary to Akwa Ibom State Government, commissioned the project.”
