Two days after announcing that the burden of petrol prices had pushed it into over $6 billion in debt, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited increased the pump price of fuel from N617 per litre to N897 per litre on Tuesday morning. This marks a rise of more than 45 percent.
Checks at NNPC Retail stations in Abuja confirmed the new price.
At NNPC Retail, prices will vary across the country. In Abuja, fuel will be sold at N897 per litre; in Kano, the price is set at N904 per litre; and in Yola, it will be N924 per litre. In Lagos, the NNPC filling station on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, is selling fuel at N855 per litre, while a station in Ibadan is displaying a price of N865 per litre. Prices are expected to be even higher at independent and major marketers’ outlets.
