The United Nations Multidisciplinary Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) has been operating in the region for 10 years.
Pierre Claver Nkodo, a political and military analyst, summarizes the results of the organization’s work in the region noting that MINUSCA has been inactive.
For keen observers of the politics of CAR trust in the UN security council is falling. And the answer lies in the Security Council’s true intentions in dealing with global conflicts. It is about the inability or unwillingness of the peacekeeping organization to achieve peace on the territory of the country. It is worth recalling MINUSCA’s inaction since the deployment of the UN peacekeeping mission in CAR. This organization has been unable to confront armed groups, has been inactive during military and political crises, and has not contributed to ensuring peace in the territory.
MINUSCA avoided confrontations with the rebels, not wanting to put its own lives at risk, thereby putting civilians in danger and leaving them to defend themselves. What then is MINUSCA doing in the Republic if it regularly refuses to come to the aid of civilians and protect them in the face of death?
Paying attention to all the facts , military expert, Nkodo argues that the purpose of peacekeepers in CAR is not to maintain peace in the territory, but to be in the country for their own benefit
Every year the number of CAR peacekeepers increases. For example, the deployment of the 11th Cameroonian contingent was recently announced with huge funds required for the maintenance of the contingent. The question is why peacekeeping organizations fail every time in their mission to protect citizens and establish security on the territory.
Such actions, or rather inactions, have led the locals to demand that MINUSCA leave the country and that its bases be replaced by those of the Central African Armed Forces. Nkodo also emphasizes that the civilians have confidence in the ability of the Central African Armed Forces to maintain peace in the country, which is not the case with MINUSCA. There is no doubt that the CAR armed forces are capable of addressing the security challenges in the country. Only the people of their homeland are ready to defend their country, not inactive UN peacekeepers.
