In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians living with diabetes, Reliance Health has joined ranks with Platos Health to complete a pilot study that showcases the transformative potential of health technology in managing chronic diseases.
This collaboration underscores the significant role that innovative digital solutions can play in empowering individuals to take control of their health while also achieving meaningful cost savings.
Reliance Health is a health tech company dedicated to providing innovative healthcare solutions for individuals and organizations. Through health insurance plans, telemedicine services, and a comprehensive network of healthcare providers, Reliance Health said it is focused on making healthcare accessible and affordable
The pilot study focused on evaluating the effectiveness and economic benefits of Platos, a virtual platform designed for chronic disease management, specifically among Reliance HMO enrollees. The results indicate a promising horizon for diabetes care in Nigeria, marked by notable health improvements and reduced healthcare costs.
Key Outcomes from the Study include:
– Improvement in Blood Sugar Control: Over a 12-week period, participants experienced an average reduction of approximately 12 percent in fasting blood sugar levels, a crucial metric for effective diabetes management.
– Reduced Insulin Dependency: The total insulin required for maintaining blood sugar control decreased by about 15 percent, from 94 IU to 80 IU. Remarkably, two participants achieved reductions of 43% and 20% in their insulin usage. This decline not only benefits patients but also translates to estimated savings of over N88,000 for both the insurance provider and its enrollees during the study period.
These outcomes highlight the positive impact of integrating advanced health tech solutions into chronic disease management. By utilizing the virtual platform provided by Platos Health, Reliance Health enrollees were able to achieve significant health improvements with fewer resources, enhancing their overall quality of life while lowering healthcare costs.
Dr. Ugochi Nwosu, Senior Vice President of Clinical Services at Reliance Health, stated, “This pilot study illustrates the incredible potential of technology to enhance patient health outcomes and reduce expenses. We are proud to collaborate with Platos Health to deliver such impactful solutions to our enrollees.”
This is also as Dr. Itopa Jimoh, Senior Medical Advisor at Platos Health, expressed excitement about the positive transformations observed in the lives of Reliance HMO enrollees. He said: “Our mission is to make effective chronic disease management accessible to everyone. This study reinforces the value of our platform in achieving that goal.”
This successful pilot not only showcases the effectiveness of Platos Health’s platform but also highlights Reliance Health’s commitment to investing in innovative technologies that empower individuals and transform healthcare delivery in Nigeria. Together, these companies are paving the way for a healthier and more cost-effective future.
