BENIN CITY – VIRTUALLY all political heavyweights in the Akoko-Edo local government area yesterday gathered to receive the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Sen. Monday Okpebholo who promised to revive the Ojirami Dam that could supply pipe borne water to the entire local government area and beyond if he is elected as governor of the state.
Among the top politicians present in the various wards of the APC ward-to-ward campaign were Sen. Domingo Obended (2011 to 2015), a fourth-term member of the House of Representatives, Hon Peter Appatason, Former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Adjoto, former federal commissioner, Public Complaints Commission (PPD), Oladele Bankole-Balogun who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Chief of Staff to Governor Godwin Obaseki, Taiwo Akerele, Vice Chairman, Edo North of the APC, Hon Anselm Agbabi, Barr Bisi Idaomi, former Minority Leader of the state house of Assembly, Hon Benjamin Olajina and several others.
Okpebholo also assured the people of Akoko -Edo local government area that the road between Ososo and Okpella would be given immediate attention just as he assured the people that his five points agenda would be followed to the letter.
“I assured you that my five points agenda will be followed to the letter
The five points agenda will be Road construction, Health, Insecurity, Education and Agriculture.
“The Ojirami Dam that was constructed many years ago but rotting away will be revived and it can provide water for the entire local government area and beyond, I assure you that it will be revived.” He stated.
The candidate assured the people of Akoko Edo community that he will also employ teachers to teach in their schools and make sure twenty four hours light is available.
Okpebholo pledged to ensure the safety of farmers in their farms by providing enough security to protect them.
The Minister for Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Abubakar Momoh, said the reconstruction of Igarra, Auchi Atte roads are already in the NDDC budget for this year. He urged the people to come out on Election Day to vote on September 21st.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole, a former governor of Edo State, called on the people of Akoko-Edo to vote APC on September 21. He said he brought Monday Okpebholo to them so that they could hear from him what he intends to do for the people of Akoko Edo.
He pleaded with them to vote APC on election day as Okpebholo had the what it takes to provide the dividends of democracy
” Some people will come to you to give you money to vote for them, collect the money and vote for Okpebholo of the APC, it is your money which they were suppose to use to work for you” he stated
Sen Obende called on the people to mobilise their “fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, family members and friends to come out on the 21st of September and cast their votes for the APC.”
On his part, Adjoto said there was no ward on the local government that the APC government of Adams Oshiomhole did not have a project but that the only legacy project of Obaseki’s administration was a 12 kilometre road to Ikakumo but only three kilometers of the road was done since it was awarded.
Obaseki’s former Chief of Staff, Akerele said all that he was able to attract to the local government area was under the APC and urged the people to vote for Okpebholo and APC on September 21st.
