President Bola Tinubu has been urged to tackle insecurity in the north, saying if he achieves it he will become a great hero of the north.

Arewa leader in the South Alhaji Musa Saidu made the call in a chat with the Vanguard, adding that the Minister of State for Defence Hon Bello Matawalle should honourably resign due to his alleged inability to make a significant positive impact in resolving security problems in Zamfara state.

Saidu said it appeared like the Minister and the governor of Zamfara can’t work together because of alleged political differences, noting that the situation was affecting security issues in the state.

“The Minister of State for Defence should resign. He was a former governor of the state and the current governor can’t work with him because Nigerians have been following their fight. So he should resign so that a new Minister of State for Defence can take steps to tackle security problems in Zamfara. The fight between the governor and the Minister is not helping the security situation.

“All northern ministers not performing should be shown the door because we have crisis in the north, this is no time for sentiment. The issue of Zamfara for instance is a big problem”

Saidu said President Tinubu should not panic over recent media reports that some northern politicians were regrouping, stressing that some of those they see as political leaders in the north no longer had followership among the people.

He said the recent mass protest was a clear indication that the masses in the north had chosen to take their destiny in their hands, adding that all the president should do to win the hearts of the northern people was to tackle insecurity in the area.

He said when the problem of insecurity is addressed people can go to their farms to earn their living.

“I heard in the news that some northern politicians are regrouping. I asked which northerners are they regrouping? What they are doing is inconsequential.

“We have confidence in President Tinubu, he should ignore the so-called story of northerners regrouping. The recent protest has shown that the Northern leaders have lost grip of the people. The leaders were mobilized to stop the protest but they were snubbed by the people.

“President Tinubu should work well for the poor people of the north, they are with him. If Tinubu tackles insecurity in the north for the people to go to their farms the north will work with him, they will adore him. He will be adored like the late Sauduna of Sokoto. “

The Arewa leader said politicians in the north also share in the blame that gave rise to Boko Haram, banditry and terrorism in the north, adding that as a student of the late Alvan Ikoku, Chief Segun Awoniyi and an aide of late Chief Harold Dappa-Biriye he would never be scared of saying truth at all times.
