National Union of Food Beverage and Tobacco Employees, NUFBTE, has inaugurated the pioneer leadership of its veterans’ Association .
The President of NUFBTE, Dr Ibrahim Garba, while inaugurating the leadership, urged members not to run a parallel group with the Union’s leadership but in an advisory role.
Dr Garba who gave the advise at the first general meeting of the veterans held at the Union Lagos National Secretariat, said” Don’t dabble into the affairs of the Union, we have competent National Administrative Council, NAC, members, I want you to act as an advisory and be open minded on issues.”
While promising the veterans of adequate support, the NUFBTE President stressed the need to review the Union’s Constitution to accommodate issues affecting the veterans.
He also tasked the veterans to ensure that they use their wealth of experience to reach out to all aggrieved past members for amicable settlement.
Representative of the immediate past President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Ayuba Wabba, Johnson Onigede, commended the leadership of NUFBTE for creating a platform for the veterans.
He praised the Union’s current President for his exemplary leadership and forthrightness.
Speaking, Chairman of the veterans Association, Chidume Emmanuel appreciated the NUFBTE President for his unwavering support in the establishment of the veterans Associations.
He said the mission and objectives of the veterans Association “is to foster peaceful labour relations among stakeholders within the Union.”
Good will messages were also presented at the event by some past leaders of the Union .
