Panic as gunmen kills vigilante member in Rivers

There was a tragedy in Rivers State following the killing of a member of a local vigilante group in the state, ONELGA Security Planning and Advisory Committee, OSPAC.

The incident happened at Igwuruta Community in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday.

It was gathered the victim identified simply as Prince, a member of OSPAC simply identified as Prince was ambushed and killed while responding to a distress.

It was learned that Prince was responding to a call about the incident of kidnapping going on in the area and that while he and other members of the vigilante were advancing the reported scene of the kidnap they were ambushed.

A source said the kidnappers had opened fire on the vigilante members and gunned down the deceased.

The development was reported to have thrown the community into panic as residents scampered for safety.

However, at press time, the corpse of the deceased has been evacuated and taken to the undisclosed mortuary.

Meantime, the Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident, noting the investigation is ongoing.
