A coalition of riverine communities in Edo State has issued a stern warning to those it described as naysayers and detractors, urging them to leave the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), Dr. Dennis Otuaro, alone to focus on repositioning the agency.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by its National President, Owei Ipiteikumoh, Ezekiel Daniel (Spokesman) Sam Uroupa (Secretary) and Ikiyor Ayedi (Publicity Secretary) the coalition expressed deep concern over the spate of attacks and calumny against Dr. Otuaro since his assumption of office. According to the group, the attacks are not only baseless but also counterproductive to the efforts to develop the Niger Delta region.

“We are aware of the orchestrated campaign to smear the image of Dr. Dennis Otuaro. These unscrupulous elements have resorted to all sorts of tactics to discredit him and undermine his good work,” Ipiteikumoh said. “We condemn these actions in the strongest terms.”

The coalition emphasized that Dr. Otuaro is a seasoned administrator and a passionate advocate for the Niger Delta region. They highlighted his impressive track record in both the public and private sectors, noting that his appointment as PAP Coordinator was a well-deserved recognition of his contributions to the region.

“Dr. Otuaro has already demonstrated his capacity to deliver on the mandate of the PAP. The recent scholarship scheme, which saw beneficiaries sent to a reputable aviation institution in South Africa, is a testament to his leadership,” the statement added. “Such initiatives have earned him widespread commendation from critical stakeholders, including the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).”

The group warned those behind the attacks to desist from their actions, threatening to expose them if they persist. “We will not hesitate to name and shame those behind these attacks. They should be aware that we are monitoring their activities closely,” Daniel said.

The coalition reiterated its commitment to peace, justice, and harmonious coexistence among the people of the Niger Delta region. They pledged to continue supporting leaders who are genuinely committed to the development of the region.

“We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to join us in supporting Dr. Dennis Otuaro as he works to reposition the PAP and bring development to the Niger Delta,” the statement concluded.
