Disquiet in Lagos APC as GAC members meet Speaker, Obasa behind closed-doors

A delegation of the Governance Advisory Council, GAC, of the Lagos All Progressives Congress, APC, has held a closed-door meeting with the Speaker, State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa.

The meeting, held on Thursday, according to the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Eromosele Ebhomele, afforded a fruitful discussion concerning the proposed Lagos Electrification Agency Law which recently scaled second reading during plenary.

The GAC delegation at the meeting included Cardinal James Odumbaku, Senator Anthony Adefuye, Dr. Yomi Finnih, Henry Ajomale and Otunba Femi Pedro.

Ebhomele recalled that on Tuesday June 25, Obasa committed the bill to the Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources with a two-week mandate for the latter to report back to the House.

This was after lawmakers at the day’s sitting debated the pros and cons of the bill which targets to repeal the Lagos Electric Power Reform Law, 2018 to provide for the creation and administration of the Lagos Electricity Market.

The bill further seeks to establish a commercial and technical regulatory framework for the electricity market with the purpose of ensuring reliable and universal access to electricity for all residents of the state.

Also, the bill seeks to establish the Lagos State Electrification Fund for the delivery of reliable electricity supply to the underserved areas of the state.

Ebhomele, noted that while speaking about the bill, the chairman of the Committee on Energy and Mineral Resources, Sobur Oluwa, said it was “very essential as it gives room for Lagos State to regulate its power supply and transmit electricity at its own pace.”

Meanwhile, sources said the meeting could be linked to the recent leadership tussle between two political caucuses of the party, The Mandate Group and the Justice Forum within the party. Both parties are loyal to President Bola Tinubu.
The delegation was said to have come to see Obasa to inorder to strategize for a roadmap to remain relevant in the scheme of things in Lagos and garner support of members of the assembly for the Mandate Group which Obasa is a vital member.
Others speculated that the delegation visited to commiserate with the Speaker, Obasa over the death of his father, Alhaji Sulaiman Obasa who recently passed away.

Recall that ahead of the 2027 general elections, some interest groups have started mobilizing for the control and management of the APC in Lagos chapter.
The indication became apparent when the groups seized the commemoration of the 72th birthday of President Tinubu, to promote their quest for control of power in the run up to the 2027 general polls.
Though, the party is been managed by the apex decision making organ, called Governance Advisory Council, GAC, created and controlled by the ex-Lagos State Governor, Tinubu, now President.
GAC, which is being led by Prince Taju Olusi, comprises of notable and influential political bigwigs in Lagos some of which are past governors, and deputies, senators, among others.
At a special lnter-faith prayers and Thanksgiving in commemoration of 72th birthday of Tinubu, organised by the Mandate Group, was led by Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, Cardinal James Odumbaku, Senator Ganiyu Olarenwaju Solomon, Chief of Staff to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde, among other notable APC leaders.
Obasa, who spoke on-behalf of the group, explained that the prayers became necessary to support Mr. President spiritually in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration in revamping and transforming the battered economic, insecurity situations of the country.
Also, a caucus group, Justice Forum, recently, James Faleke as State Coordinator, and his Deputy, Barrister Kolade Alabi with other state Executives were officially sworn in on Saturday June 29, 2004 at Mende Town Hall Maryland, Lagos.

In his acceptance speech the ranking Member House of Representatives for Ikeja Federal Constituency, Faleke thanked all the leaders of Justice Forum, for the trust and opportunity to serve and assured all that justice will always prevail in Lagos State and Nigeria.

He said the assignment was devoid of personal interest but to assists the state to win well in future elections.

Faleke also emphasized that all lingering issues would be looked into and resolved at each local government.

He however, promised that with the assistant of his deputy and the State Executives, by the Grace of God will deliver and that Justice Forum shall continue to prevail, “Ododo loma leke,” he concluded.

These appointments were announced by former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and GAC member, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, under the leadership of State Coordinator, Faleke.

Prominent APC leaders in Lagos State also took oath of office within the Justice Forum. GAC Leader, Prince Tajudeen Olusi was named Leader, Otunba Busura Alebiosu as Chairman, and Prince Rabiu Oluwa as Deputy Chairman.
Other notable figures include; Bashorun S. Alabi-Macfoy, Prince A. Ogunleye, Olorunfunmi Bashorun, Otunba D. Ajomale, Omooba M. Adetoro, Y. Dosunmu, f Bakare Olubamise, Yemi Alli.

Others are Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Salvador Gboyega, Isiaq Tunde, Joko Pelumi, and Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba (Ijede LCDA boss) and Engr Akinola Kehinde O for the Ikeja Division

The Justice Forum also appointed leaders for each of Lagos State’s three senatorial districts. For the West Senatorial District, leaders which include: Sanyaolu Mufutau, Akinola Bashiru, and Mathias Kutton.

The East Senatorial District leaders are Kehinde Salabiu Adeleke, Folami Muslim Olohuntele, and Otunba Dengel Anifowose. The Central Senatorial District is led by Mr. Morufu G. Ojora, Mr. Yomi Adebayo, and Kamal Bashua.
