The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has assured the corps members in Oyo State that measures have been put in place to protect their health and well-being during their orientation course.

The NYSC State Coordinator, Mr. Abel Oche gave the assurance during his address to the Batch B stream one corps members yesterday at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin Oyo State.

Oche explained that the camp facilities had been fortified again the disease before the arrival of the corps members, saying safety measures, such as sanitation and hygiene instructions had been handed to them including the provision of hand sanitisers to forestall possible infection during the three weeks training exercise.

He said: “The safety and health of our corps members is of utmost importance to us. We are working closely with the relevant health agencies to ensure that they are not exposed to the risk of contracting cholera.”

The coordinator further emphasized the need for proper hygiene and sanitary practices among the corps members, noting that these measures would help prevent the spread of cholera and other communicable diseases.

“The management of NYSC will continue to monitor the situation and take necessary steps to safeguard the health of our corps members. We urge you to be vigilant and maintain high standards of personal hygiene at all times.”

The Oyo State coordinator also took the opportunity to remind the corps members of the ongoing campaign against open defecation, which has been linked to the spread of cholera and other water-borne diseases.

“As you go out to serve your country and communities, we urge you to be champions of this campaign,” he said.

Oche, however, solicited the support of the Oyo State government, corps employers and well-meaning Nigerians to assist in the roofing of the multi-purpose hall under construction to enhance itch-free orientation exercise during the rainy season.

Meanwhile, two thousand five hundred and thirteen corps members, comprising eight hundred and fifty two males, one thousand six hundred and sixty one females are posted to the state.
