A Lagos journalist, Adeola Agoro has set August 2, 2024 for the premiere of her movie, “Okikiola The Fisherman’.

According to her, the legacy of promoting the Osun culture is deeply rooted in her and the way she wrote the story of “Okikiola the Fisherman”. She said it is both enchanting and culturally rich and it would not only entertain but also promote the unique culture and traditions of the Osun beliefs.

She said the cinematic masterpiece aims to highlight “the beauty and significance of our original religion, and it captures rural and urban locations, the essence of our people, history and folklore.”

“By supporting this film, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has not only sought to help preserve and celebrate the cultural identity of Osun State, he is also attracting audiences from diverse backgrounds. With thirteen foreigners from the US, Mexico, Spain and Venezuela making their grand appearances where they danced to our songs and spoke our native language, it will in no small way bring our culture to a vantage position.” She added, pointing out Gov Ademola Adeleke’s contribution.

“Okikiola the Fisherman” is a story of love, greed, resilience, deceit, and danger inherent in taking the wrong decisions.

Okikiola, (Baaj Adebule) the star fisherman of the community, has one aspiration – to marry Dunni, the very beautiful daughter of the struggling parents of his community and he does all within his power to show how ready he is to take care of her.

By a twist of fate, the Yeye Osun of the community (Jumoke George) has to quickly find a wife for her son, Daisi (Bolanle Ninalowo),  leading to a silent war between the fisherman and the custodian of the river which   threatens to devour or open a new vista of hope for some of the characters.

What would make Adeyemi (Kunle Afolayan) want to reach for a weapon to attack the fisherman? What would be the game of Iya Ngozi (Faithia Balogun in all of this?

Many notable actors are in the movie and some of them are, Kunle Afolayan, Bolanle Ninalowo, Faithia Balogun, Baaj Adebule, Jumoke George, Don Richard, Baba Olaiya, Segun Ogungbe and many others.

As gathered, the movie also has the appearances of 13 foreigners from the US, Spain, Venezuela and Mexico who spoke the Yoruba language well and showed us the way to practice the often-forgotten Osun traditions.

“Okikiola The Fisherman” is said to be a vivid cinematography and storytelling work and the producer is certain that the audience will witness the splendor of drawing inspiration from local myths and legends that will spark curiosity among viewers, encouraging them to explore more about love, unity, conflicts and all about life, greed and fate.

Shot with the best in cinematic equipment, artistry and interpreted by celebrated actors, it is produced under the Lovely Pink Media Ltd owned by two hardworking women, Adeola Agoro and Dr. Titilope Ejimagwa.
