Sen Ngwu splashes N81m scholarship on students in Enugu

…says education is bedrock of any nation

The Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Osita Ngwu, Tuesday awarded scholarships worth N81million to exceptional students from his constituency as part of his commitment to the delivery of quality education to youths.

The senate minority whip also unveiled the Kit a school child initiative and provided uniforms, bags, sandals, socks as books for 20,000 primary school kids in over 200 schools in Enugu West senatorial zone.

Vanguard reports that 19 undergraduates and one postgraduate student received cash award for the scholarship.

Speaking during the event, Ngwu said that it was the first of many to come and represents his unrelenting commitment to making education accessible to young people as according to him, “education remains the bedrock of development of any nation.

“Education is the foundation of everything we do and this is in fulfilment of one of my promises to the people who gave me the opportunity to serve,” he said, adding that he plans to also launch an innitiative that will award excellence among teachers to encourage them to deliver quality education to children.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and former Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo described  Ngwu as young and visionary leader while praising his decision to invest In education.

“Ngwu is trading the right part to excellence and sees a future where beneficiaries will become responsible leaders in the country,” he said. “The people counted on him and they are not disappointed,”.

He urged the awardees, who received between N2Million and N6Million, not to take the opportunity for granted and should make sure that they take their education seriously so as to contribute to the growth and development of the state and Nigeria at large.
