The Vice Chancellor of, Professor Nse Essien, has announced plans for the 5th Inaugural Lecture of the varsity.
The event, which will hold on Thursday, the 27th of June, 2024, at the new Tetfund Auditorium of the main campus of the University in Ikot Akpaden by 2pm, will feature topical discussions on security and development.
The lecture, titled: ‘’Thinking the thinkable for gatekeepers at gateways: Integrated security doctrine and emerging threats in Nigeria”, will be delivered by a Professor of History of Ideas and International Security Studies, Otoabasi Akpan.
Professor Akpan will be reeling out facts and figures amassed since he joined the academia near three decades ago, which could be significant in proferring solutions to the challenges currently plaguing development of the nation, insecurity and educational advancement of Nigerians.
Expected to grace the event are policy makers, civil society organizations, opinion leaders, political office holders engaged in the business of policy formulation and implementation, security experts, and a host of others.
Akpan, who is the current Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of AKSU, began his career in the University System as an Assistant Lecturer, University of Uyo in February 1997, and has published more than one hundred scholarly articles in journals, books and conference proceedings locally and internationally. He is a distinguished Sabbatical Fellow of the National Defence College, Abuja, and visiting Professor of the University of Abuja Leadership Center.
The inaugural lecturer is an ambassador of the United Nations Peace Volunteers; Chairman, Mary Slessor Institute of African Policy Studies; National President of the College of Professors in Nigeria (CoPIN), and member of several globally recognized professional bodies of Arts and Humanities.
