Sporting Lagos, after just one season in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), have been relegated to the second division Nigeria National League.
The decisive match on Sunday, June 23, against Shooting Stars of Ibadan ended in a 1-0 defeat, sealing their fate.
Christian Pyagbara, formerly of Rivers United, scored the solitary goal in the Southwest derby, condemning Sporting Lagos to relegation.
The Lagos-based club needed a victory over Segun Ogunbote’s team to secure their NPFL status, but their inconsistent away form plagued them throughout the season.
Sporting Lagos now face the challenge of regrouping in the Nigeria National League, aiming to bounce back stronger in upcoming seasons.
