Encomiums as six FUOYE students clear ICAN

Barely 24 hours after news of six fresh graduates of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, FUOYE, clinching doctoral degree scholarships from top-rated universities in the United States of America and Brazil, news of another six students of the university clearing the 2024 Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, ICAN, examination has emerged.

The students’ admirable performance has elicited encomiums from several quarters for FUOYE.

The six students who made the institution proud by becoming Chartered Accountants are: Rojugbokan Oluwafemi, Ajibade Gideon Opeyemi, Oni Joshua Oluwafemi, and Opakunle Philip who are in 400 Level as well as Abdulrazaq Abeeb and Eretan Ibukunoluwa Deborah, who are currently in 300 Level.

Abeeb and Ibukun were recently elected President and General-Secretary of the FUOYE chapter of the Nigeria Union of Accounting Students Association, NUASA, respectively.

Commenting on the laudable development, Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Prof. Babatunde Afolabi, a Professor of Finance, said: “We really appreciate God. Since the emergence of Prof. Abayomi Sunday Fasina as Vice-Chancellor, there has been a continuous success story in the faculty and the Department of Accounting.

“Last year, one of our students, Miss. Olatomide Ayomide Precious, was the overall best in the whole of West Africa who wrote ICAN. Now, six undergraduate students have cleared their ICAN before graduation. This is a great feat, and we appreciate God and our amiable Vice Chancellor, as well as his management team.“

The HOD of Accounting Department, FUOYE, Dr. Alli Momoh, who spoke to newsmen also said: “This is a good development. It is not the first time some of our students were qualified. We decided to celebrate them in order to encourage other students to be serious with their studies.

“The benefits that come with this feat is that it will place the successful students on better footing when they get to labour market. We have deployed as strategies effective teachings, close mentoring and mentorship to ensure this success is achieved.”
