Musa Zaria, National Chairman of the Self Reliance for Physically Challenged Association of Nigeria, stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration has significantly benefited people living with disabilities (PWDs) more than any previous government in Nigeria.

Addressing newsmen ahead of  Democracy Day celebrations, in Abuja, Zaria highlighted that APC-led states are providing free education for PWDs from primary through to university levels.

He praised the appointments of PWDs as special advisers under both President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Tinubu.

“Our people are going to occupy executive positions in the presidency under Tinubu’s administration, by God’s grace,” Zaria said.

He noted that he was appointed as a legislative aide on PWDs by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, and anticipates similar appointments by the Senate President.

Zaria also commended the principal officers of the National Assembly for their commitment to appointing PWDs to key positions, noting significant progress under the current democratic dispensation.

“This is the first time in Nigeria’s history that PWDs have gathered in Abuja using personal resources to celebrate Democracy Day,” Zaria stated.

He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the APC for reinstating Democracy Day on June 12.

Zaria urged for the fulfillment of Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda, emphasizing that PWDs are a top priority.

He contrasted the current administration’s efforts with those of previous governments, citing numerous unfulfilled promises before APC’s tenure.

“When President Buhari came into power, we requested that PWDs be constitutionally integrated into the party structure, and APC approved our request.

“There is no decision made by the APC without the contributions of PWDs” he said.

He however, appreciated the APC, the federal government, and progressive governors for their continued support and care for PWDs.
