Yaba College of Technology Students Union Government, YASUG, has pledged support to students’ growth, saying it wants to identify their challenges and advocate for their needs.

President of YASUG, Morakinyo Sola, said it was important that the union and the students collaborate to build a solid foundation for excellence.

Speaking in Lagos at a three-day retreat themed: ‘Building a Foundation for Quality Administration,’ he said the event was to foster dialogue, collaboration and strategic planning among the three arms of the student union.

According to him, the retreat was to bring together the executive, Judiciary and the Senate Council to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness.

He said: “Throughout this event, the students union leaders engaged in insightful discussions, workshops, and activities to lay the groundwork for a more robust and inclusive student governance system.

“Their active participation and contributions are crucial as they chart the course for a brighter future for their beloved institution. This is a regime that is termed the transformation regime, which implies that we support the students’ growth, identify their challenges and advocate for their needs at all times, without being confrontational, but through diplomatic engagement and dialogue.

“Considering the fact that we have a good Dean of Students affairs, Alhaji Alaba Olalekan, who also recognises the importance of students unionism and welfarism on campus, he has always been a good listener and a father to all students.

“This is another way to foster peace and unity on campus, and to also contribute to the growth and development of the college, under the administration of our dear Rector, Dr. Ibraheem Abdul where the voices of our students are being heard and their concerns and needs and expectations are being met.

“With this, we believe we are building future leaders that will understand their roles in community development and nation building. However, you will agree with me that, to build a foundation for quality administration for the future, the retreat is needed.’Zola’ said it was important that the union and the students collaborate to build a solid foundation for excellence.
