Why I withdrew from Yoruba Nation agitation – Omoologo

…Cries out over betrayal

A former advocate for the Yoruba Nation, Tenny Omoologo, has revealed that she withdrew her support from the group upon discovering insincerity.

Omoologo, who identified concerns over the group’s alleged exploitation of individuals for financial gain, said it conflicted with her principles.

According to her, despite previous conflicts and criticisms directed at her, she also facilitated the release of those apprehended by the DSS police at Sunday Igboho’s residence and in arranging legal proceedings for Sunday Igboho himself.

Omoologo, who disclosed how she organised fundraising efforts for arrested individuals in the group using their designated account numbers, however, said despite her generous contributions, she did not receive appreciation from them and instead faced insults and attacks.

Her words: “At a point in time, there was a fight between myself and some leaders of the group over concerns regarding escalating conflicts among his supporters. I urged him to address the issue peacefully.

“I realised on December 21, 2022, during a meeting, that everything they were doing was solely for a political agenda. When they began targeting me and sending people to attack and bully me for confronting them about deceiving the Yoruba people for years in the name of a false Yoruba nation, I knew it was time to leave.”

Omoologo came forward with allegations of deception, extortion and misuse of funds by the group. She alleged that her influence and resources were exploited for personal gain, with funds donated by others being diverted towards personal projects such as house construction.

She asserted that after revealing these truths to the public, she has faced prolonged attacks on her social media accounts, including YouTube and Facebook, lasting over eight months.

She said: “Recently, there were reports of Yoruba Nation agitators allegedly invading the Oyo State secretariat in Ibadan. However, I cannot provide any insight into these events as I am no longer affiliated with the group, and I am not informed about their activities. This can be verified through my social media profiles.

“It is regrettable that individuals have reportedly urged the police to apprehend me in connection with the events at the Oyo State secretariat, purportedly due to one of my Facebook posts.

“Amid ongoing allegations, I suspect a concerted effort to discredit me, similar to the treatment another individual received after distancing himself from their circles. I deny any involvement in these unfounded accusations and urge authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. I have no knowledge of the recent secretariat invasion by their group, having departed from the Yoruba nation agitators’ association in June 2023. The situation has left me feeling overwhelmed and distressed.”
