Those expecting PDP to explode ‘ll be disappointed – BoT chair, Wabara

. Says PDP ‘ll regain power in 2027

Former Senate President and Chairman, Board of Trustees (BoT), of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Dr Adolphus Wabara, has  declared that “those expecting the party to explode will be disappointed”.

He predicted a brighter future for the former ruling national party, saying that PDP is blessed with many mature minds capable of resolving any crisis.

Senator Wabara in an exclusive chat with Vanguard, said that PDP would weather its current storms and bounce back as the National ruling party in 2027.

The former Senate President noted that challenges were a common feature in every human organisation, and not peculiar to the PDP.

He expressed confidence that whatever “internal issues” in the party, would be amicably resolved at the forthcoming National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the party scheduled for Thursday in Abuja.

The PDP BoT Chairman said that unlike other political parties, PDP parades an array of seasoned politicians and democrats whose main interest is  “Nigeria First”.

He said:”Whatever people think is happening in PDP today is not strange nor peculiar to the PDP. Political parties all over the world especially the big parties will always have challenges from time to time.

” But the interesting thing is that whatever issues we have today in our party will only make us stronger and more united.

” I’m confident that whatever grievances any member has, will be trashed at the NEC meeting on Thursday. Our party elders will use the elders’ lens to look at them and have them resolved.

” PDP has come a long way and has weatherd bigger storms in the past. All those expecting PDP to explode will surely be disappointed. We will come out stronger and ultimately rebounce as the ruling national party come 2027″.

Senator Wabara, however, appealed to members of the party who have any form of grievances to be willing to sacrifice, and to always place the interest of the party above their personal benefits.

Recall that 60 national lawmakers of the PDP led by Hon. Ugochinyere Ikenga, had called for the resignation of the Acting National Chairman of the PDP, Umar Damagum, accusing him of hobnobbing with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

They alleged that the Acting National Chairman is in a holy alliance with the APC with a view  to hand over PDP to the APC.

Analysts predict that the Thursday NEC meeting would be a make or mar gathering as the party’s presidential flag bearer in 2023, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar; and former Rivers Governor and Minister for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, battle for the soul of PDP.
