Samuel Ogunyooye, a distinguished documentary filmmaker and founder of the Glory of God Cherubim and Seraphim Church, shares insights into the motivation behind the production of “Baba Aladura” movie.
The film chronicles the life and legacy of the late founder of the Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim, Moses Orimolade Tunolase.

Ogunyooye who had produced a documentary film titled, “Anathema- The White Garment Experience” in November 2022 said:” The decision to produce a movie centered around Baba Aladura stemmed from a desire to shed light on the often misunderstood history and traditions of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church.
The negative image surrounding the church and the absence of a comprehensive biography inspired us to embark on this project. Additionally, with the church’s centenary approaching, we saw an opportunity to showcase our cultural heritage and unique history to a wider audience.”
On the research undertaken in the production process of the anticipated movie, he said: “Our research took us to Ikare in Ondo State, the birthplace of the church, and involved one-on-one engagements with prominent figures within the church. We meticulously verified oral traditions and collaborated with industry experts, including Tunde Kelani, to ensure authenticity and accuracy.”
On why Tunde Kelani, a famed filmmaker is part of the production team for the movie, he said:”Tunde Kelani’s strategic insight and experience in showcasing Yoruba culture are invaluable. We believe his contributions will help bridge the gap between traditional Yoruba beliefs and Christianity, presenting a balanced portrayal of the church’s cultural fusion.”
Shedding light on the challenges he has faced during the pre-production phase of the movie, he said: “Challenges during the pre-production phase, particularly regarding the church’s perceived image, have been addressed with resilience and determination. Negative perceptions posed obstacles, but we remain steadfast in our commitment to tell Baba Aladura’s story authentically”.
Looking ahead, Ogunyooye said: “We are excited to share this hidden truth with the world. Through aggressive media campaigns and strategic partnerships, we aim to elevate the narrative of Baba Aladura and the Cherubim and Seraphim Church.”
