Surprise! Surprise! Memo warning against leaking memo leaked!

By Prisca Sam-Duru

During the vibrant days of ace comedians Julius Agwu, Okey Bakassi etc, there was this story of a machine or gadget to be used to capture fraudsters/robbers.

The gadget was tested in some countries and it showed quite impressive efficiency though with different percentages.

However, when it was brought to Nigeria, rather than detect how much it would do to clamp down on criminals, it was stolen.

That’s the story that came to mind as soon as news about the leaked memo warning government officials to desist from leaking memos, broke.

Nigerians are very smart people. Obviously rattled by the leaked memo that landed the suspended minister of humanitarian affairs and poverty alleviation, Betta Edu et al in trouble, the federal government warned civil servants against leaking sensitive documents to the public.

Well, as we all know already, the memo issued by Head of civil service of the federation, Folashade Yemi-Esan, leaked.

Nigerians have been making fun of the situation, saying there’s no hiding place for corrupt officials. That’s what you get in time of social media; a time when nothing can be completely buried from the public eye.

That’s what you get when the government has so many rotten eggs in service. That’s what you get when the people aim to show distaste for bad governance.

This is why they are praying that the memos keep leaking so that officials will continue to be exposed even if not punished.
