Chairman of League of Patriotic Lawyers, Abubakar Yesufu, has said the former Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria and current and  Special Investigator investigating the Central Bank of Nigeria should be protected and supported.

Yesufu , a former spokesman for New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, presidential campaign, who said this in a statement made available to Vanguard, called on President Tinubu to protect Obazee against what he described as blackmail from any quarter.

The statement reads:”We want to commend President  Bola  Tinubu for empowering the financial reporting  boss, Obazee, with an important national task. He is a fearless fighter, who I have known for over two decades for fighting to sanitize the skulduggery that has bedeviled our financial sector.

“Whether in Ecclesiastical sleaze, micro and macro malfeasance tucked away in the turban of infamy, Obazee has been the  enfant terrible.

In Obazee’s “ court” there are no sacred cows.

“Such a job is huge and onerous and we call on Mr President to protect the special panel from black mail , blow back, intimidation, and outright false hood. We call on the President not to dilute the unsparing nature of the special committee under the guise of implementing the Oronsaye report.

Give the special panel a life of its own by clothing it with legislative legitimacy and give no listening ears when  corruption, fights back.

“We pledge that several lawyers, including over 20 Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, have signed on to defend the efforts of the special panel, pro bono.

“The anti corruption czar is an alumnus of the University of Benin, where I  was one time President of the SUG, should pursue and overtake the merchants of corrupt practices. The entire  country appreciates his good works and the dangers contained therein.”
