The first rain in the year which took place early in the week was a most welcome gift from God considering how maddening the heatwave had become.
But for residents of Gberigbe Ikorodu in Lagos, it’s another round of season of suffering and pain as the flood has once again, taken over the road.
As before, the two worst spots, One Fold and Fomon Ewu Owa bus stops have become a nightmare. People have started falling into the dirty water after missing their steps while trying to cross over. Cost of transportation is something else now due to the bad road coupled with the high cost of fuel.
Commuters are making efforts to navigate the road but it’s becoming more difficult as most communities that served as diversion routes have now been gated.
In the midst of the hardship, some group of boys who call themselves owners of the land, make matters worse by collecting tolls from commuters wherever they find a manageable route.
In spite of the pleas, wailing for the government to do something to this gberigbe road before the rains come, the government ignored the people.
Now, the residents are back to suffer. This Gberigbe road is big shame on the state government.
