A former Chairman of Brass Local Government Council in Bayelsa State, Dr Bello Bina has commended the Bola Tinubu-led federal government for hearing the cries of Sangana Community which has been ravaged by ocean surge and coastal erosion.

He particularly commended the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku for leading a high-powered delegation of the intervention agency to visit Sangana, his hometown

Bello had recently raised the alarm that coastal communities in Brass LGA are on the verge of being wiped out by erosion caused by the sea surge and had called on the federal government and oil companies operating in the area to urgently intervene to solve the coastal erosion problem ravaging communities, particularly Sangana.

However, following Ogbuku’s visit, an elated Bina described Tinubu’s administration as being alive and responsive to the cries of the people.

The former Brass Council helmsman said it was satisfying to have a federal government that listens and makes attempts to solve the problems of the people.

Bina who is also the Chairman/CEO of a business conglomerate, Be-Multi World Plus Limited lauded the NDDC boss for taking the pains to sail down to Sangana despite the turbulent waves, noting that the visit has demonstrated leadership, courage, empathy and a commitment to improving the lives of the Niger Delta people.

Bina in a chat with newsmen in Yenagoa, said: “We, the people of Sangana community feel so loved and honoured to have the high-powered NDDC delegation. The visit is indicative of the President’s will to solve the problems of the ordinary people in the Niger Delta.

“We also believe the federal government through the NDDC will solve the age-long ocean encroachment which has destroyed valuable properties and displaced several residents.

“We are confident that this visit will mark the beginning of a collaboration between our people and government towards solving this searing issue of ours.

“We therefore promise to give them all the support they need whenever work begins. Let the various multinational oil companies operating in our area liaise with the NDDC to bring respite to our people.”

He also commended the Commission’s Executive Director of Projects, Sir Victor Antai, the Director of Procurement, Dr. Doode Week, and other members of the delegation that accompanied the MD.

It was gathered that the NDDC will undertake the piling job including putting wave breakers along other measures to reduce the impact of devastating ocean surges and erosion of the community.

Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) visited Sangana in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State on Saturday.

The delegation donated relief items and conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the damages caused by the recent ocean surge.

It was also gathered that the NDDC boss promised to construct a 4km road which was requested by the community.
