SOKOTO: The National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) on Tuesday swore in 1500, corps members of the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 set, deployed to Sokoto and Zamfara state for the one-year mandatory national service.
The Coordinator, Mr Usman Yakub Yaro gave the number during the swearing-in ceremony at the Farfaru Temporary NYSC Orientation Camp, Wamakko local government area, Sokoto state.
He said that the corps members comprised males and females, adding that more corps members were still reporting to the camp.
He urged the newly sworn-in corps members to pay special attention to the skills acquisition training, which had been reinvigorated by the management of the scheme to create opportunities for them to acquire vocational skills during the service year.
“The orientation course is a rare opportunity for self-development and actualization as well as contribution to national development on the platform of the NYSC scheme.
“One major Programme that has made the NYSC very relevant today is the skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) Programme,” he said.
He used the opportunity to congratulate the Governor for his recent Victory at the apex court that upheld his Election as dully elected governor of the state.
Yaro commended Gov. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State for his assistance to the NYSC scheme since the inception of his tenure in 2023.
He lauded for the provision of the temporary orientation camp, which ensured the security of corps members and camp officials during the orientation courses.
The coordinator also appealed for the intervention of the state government in upgrading the facilities in the permanent orientation camp at Wamakko and provision of more operational vehicles to facilitate the inspection of corps members.
In his welcome address, Governor Ahmed Aliyu urged corps members to endeavour to render dedicated service to the state and the nation.
He urged them to maintain disciplined in the camp and participate vigorously in all the activities of the orientation programme, shun corruption and other vices and embrace integrity and humility.
” I appreciate your clarion call and salute your courage your courage for reporting to the temporary orientation camp for the three weeks exercise despite security challenges facing many parts of the country.”
” I promised to give more Support to the NYSC management in the state for the actualization and realization of the noble objectives if the scheme.
“The NYSC scheme is vital in sustaining national integration, social development and promoting a just and egalitarian society”
The further stated that, Nigeria as a nation has placed higher premium on the intellectual, moral, cultural and physical development of it’s Youths for a better tomorrow” says the Governor.
He however used the occasion to announced increase of corps members state allowance to 100 percent for those posted to Sokoto and Zamfara states.
