Delta State Police Command has been silent over an alleged missing police AK 47 rifle in Warri, Delta state.
A WhatsApp post to the police spokesman in the state, DSP Bright Edafe for comment on the incident had not been responded to at press time.
Meanwhile, Vanguard gathered from a source that the AK-47 rifle had been found and handed back to the police officer it was assigned to.
The source who did not want his name in print said the policeman who was allegedly on security duty at a palace in Warri was so excited with the Super Eagles’s defeat of the Bafana Bafana of South Africa and in that alleged state some of his colleagues feared anything funny could happen since he was armed.
” Some of his colleagues had their worries and they had to tactically remove the rifle from him to avert any abuse.
“When the policeman woke up the following day he started shouting that his rifle had been stolen.”
Continuing, the source said he was aware the rifle was handed back to the policeman in the early hours of yesterday.
” You know this our state , with the way some people will twist it, make an ethnic issue out of the situation. The rifle has been given to the Policeman. It is in our Whatsapp chat group . And this is what happened. The riffle has been handed over to him”, the source said.
Another account had it that the policeman locked his rifle in a room before going to watch the match. But when he came back he did not find it and had to raise the alarm that it was stolen. This second account did not say if the rifle had been found and returned to the policeman.
