The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is always a hotbed of passion, drama and unpredictable upsets. But this year, one man has taken AFCON prediction to a whole new level of accuracy.
Amadu Raheem Komba Gbandeh, an ordinary football fan, has sent shockwaves through the tournament by correctly calling the outcomes of seven out of eight Round of 16 matches, leaving pundits and fans alike in awe.
Prophet of penalties
Gbandeh’s prophetic pronouncements weren’t limited to safe bets. He boldly declared Senegal’s penalty-shootout defeat to Ivory Coast, Nigeria’s triumph ove Cameroon, and even Cape Verde’s unexpected victory against Mauritania. His Facebook post detailing these pre-match predictions went viral, transforming him into an overnigh AFCON oracle.
“Just as I predicted, Cameroon, Namibia E. Guinea, and Egypt have all been knocked out of the AFCON,” Gbandeh proclaimed on social media. “What makes it even more interesting is that Egypt got ousted on penalties, just like I said a few days ago.”
His streak of AFCON prescience wasn’ flawless. South Africa’s 2-0 drubbing o Morocco proved one prediction off the mark But Gbandeh remains unfazed, confidently predicting a Guinea vs. Cape Verde final, with Guinea emerging victorious after extra time He even envisions Nigeria reaching the semi finals before succumbing to Cape Verde’s dominance.
