Adeyemi Daramola, a seasoned Chartered Accountant with over a decade of industry experience, recently shared nuanced insights on the critical role of Chief Financial Officers (CFOs) in steering companies through financial crises and complex fundraising decisions.
In a statement, Daramola articulated: “During periods of financial instability, a CFO’s acumen becomes the linchpin in safeguarding a company’s fiscal health and long-term viability.”
He further elaborated on the critical decision CFOs face when choosing between debt and equity financing, each presenting unique challenges and opportunities.
Daramola elucidated that while debt financing offers the advantage of maintaining control and ownership, it introduces the complexities of interest obligations and potential asset risks.
Conversely, equity financing brings strategic partnerships and expertise but at the cost of ownership dilution and altered decision-making dynamics.
The veteran financial expert emphasized the necessity for CFOs to conduct rigorous scenario analyses and stress tests when evaluating financing options.
“CFOs must meticulously balance the inherent risks of debt repayment against the implications of equity dilution, always keeping an eye on the company’s long-term strategic objectives,” Daramola advised.
Daramola highlighted that the optimal financing strategy is inherently context-dependent, requiring CFOs to leverage their expertise in financial modeling, risk management, and strategic foresight to guide their organizations toward sustainable growth and resilience in an ever-evolving economic landscape.
