In a bid to advance care of the elderly in society, Wellcare Home Medicals and Precious Jewels Elderly Care Home, organized an award to celebrate the senior citizens for their resilience.

Speaking during the award, the managing director, Dr. Jumoke Odunsi, said, elderly people need care and comfort to lead a healthy life without worries and anxiety.

“They are the vulnerable and forgotten ones by most people, but we choose to loudly celebrate and honour them. We thank you for what you have done for us, we want to assure you that your legacy lives on and we will build on them all.

“Our mission is not just a duty, it’s a calling. Everyone in this organization works, we do not have a job with a limited job description and closing time, but we work round the clock to ensure that all our clients and residents are happy and comfortable.

“Elders desire a life with good health, dignity, economic independence and finally a peaceful death. They long for care, love and affection. Understanding their needs and concerns, will ensure their good health. Lending emotional support to the elders keeps them jovial, which is inevitably the ideal way to live a healthy life. However, for many people, providing care and attention to elders is not possible due to work priorities.

“Old people need supervision, the laxity to understand the needs and worries of elders make them appear strangers to the younger generation, who later regard them as a burden.

“Old people are subject to abuse from family members over property disputes, some of them are even forced to sell their belongings and live in penury till death. Many of them are too scared to express themselves or fear being humiliated by their loved ones”, she said.

Speaking on the engagement of the organization in taking care of the elderly, she said, “We cannot be ungrateful to God who has helped us through the years since inception. He has been fighting both seen and unseen battles for us.

“This year, we passed through the cashless period and we did not go hungry, in spite of the economic realities we were still able to grow and expand. We have not diminished but increased, and we can go on and on. We have had our fair challenges but God is helping us to overcome them all.

“Our commitment to providing compassionate and personalized care has elevated the quality of life of our clients and provided the much-needed peace of mind to the family members knowing that their aged loved ones are in very good hands.

“I am inspired by the stories of joy and fulfillment that have emerged from the bonds we have formed with them. It’s not just about meeting their physical needs, it is about creating a home and an environment where they feel loved, valued, and truly cared for.

“As we stand on the threshold of a new year, let us carry forward the spirit of excellence that defines us. Let us continue to innovate, to learn, and to grow, always with the well-being of our older adults at the forefront of our minds. The challenges we face only serve to strengthen our resolve and deepen our compassion.

“It has been a remarkable journey and I am filled with an overwhelming sense of gratitude and pride in what we have accomplished as an organization. This year has been nothing short of extraordinary for our organization, and it’s a privilege to share this moment with all of you”, she concluded.
