The Yoruba Renaissance Coalition, YRC, has appealed for peace and calm in Rivers State following the political crisis in the state.
The group also described the attack on the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara as a deliberate attempt to destabilize the state.
The group in a statement by its spokesperson, Comrade Kunle Adetobi, highlighted the disturbing developments, particularly the alleged plot to unlawfully remove Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The Group condemned the burning of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the threats made against the governor when he visited the Assembly Complex after the incident.
They also called on all political parties involved and individuals including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to sheath their swords and embrace peace, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has waded into the situation according to a Vanguard report.
“The YRC hereby emphasizes that in a democracy, the principles of constitutional democracy must be upheld by all, and no one should be allowed to act with impunity” the statement added.
