The Director General, National youth service Corps, represented by the Kebbi state co-ordinator NYSC, Mrs Okolo Agatha Banki has called on employers of corps members in the state to stop shielding corps members deployed to their establishments, both public and private, on any form of crime as the corps has vowed to sanction those in the habit of covering their offences while serving the nation under them.
Okolo decried covering absteencism and abscondments by corps posted for their primary assignment and shielded by their employers saying corps members entrusted under them must be exposed when found to be engaged in illicit activities.
The state NYSC chief made the statement at a one day workshop organised by the corps tagged” 2023 corps employers workshop in Birnin Kebbi with a theme ” evolving strategies for promoting a healthy work life balance for corps members -the role of employers”
She urged employers to be honest and to aid corps members in the execution of community development projects beneficial to the host community.
Declaring the workshop open, the Commissioner of youths and sports, Muhammad Nura Fingila commended the state coordinator for the harmonious working relationship with Kebbi government while assuring the corps of adequate security of their lives and property. He described the workshop as timely as it will go a long way in fostering a deep good working relationship between corps members and their employers even as he said welfare and right of corps members must be protected at various places of primary assignments.
He added that, Governor Idris as a former teacher is ready to retain corps members posted to schools while those who distinguished themselves during the service year would get automatic employments at the end of their service he said.
The workshop featured questions and answers between employers present at the workshop and corps members. It was attended by Chairmen of Birnin Kebbi local government as the host and his Gwandu local government counterpart, army, NSCDC, DSS and a host of others.
