Delta: Ukwuani LG unveils initiatives for devt

In a remarkable show of commitment to development and prosperity, Ukwuani Local Government, Delta State under the leadership of Barrister Ajede Possible has unveiled its #StepUpUkwuaniAgenda, showcasing a myriad of achievements and initiatives that have transformed the region.

This multifaceted development agenda spans peace and security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, sports, and numerous other sectors. The local government has made significant strides to foster peace, improve infrastructure, empower its residents, and enhance the overall well-being of the Ukwuani community.

Highlighting some of his achievements on Promoting Peace and Security was the Local Government Chairman, Ajede Possible. According to him, Ukwuani Local Government has made substantial progress in ensuring the peace and security of its residents. This includes organizing the Peace & Security Summit 2021, conducting numerous peace-building meetings, regular stakeholder gatherings to promote dialogue, and facilitating conflict resolution between communities. He added, “To enhance security, measures such as containing Fulani herders in designated areas, strengthening security agencies, and procuring security vehicles have been implemented. The local government has also acquired vehicles and motorcycles for the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and the Anti-Cult Volunteer Corps in Ukwuani LGA.

“The local government has also invested heavily in infrastructure development. Key projects include the construction of a modern abattoir and meat market, reconstruction of markets, schools, and legislative office complexes, grading and filling of roads, and various ongoing projects like the construction of Obiaruku City Stadium and drainage in Umutu Market. Furthermore, the “Light Up Ukwuani” project is underway to illuminate the region.

“Efforts have been made to maintain a clean environment, including the purchase of waste disposal trucks, the creation of refuse dump sites and recycling centers, regular market cleanups, and fumigation of public spaces. The local government is committed to reducing environmental nuisances and hazards”.

Speaking on educational sector, Possible said “Ukwuani Local Government prioritizes education with measures such as strengthening the teaching workforce in primary schools, distributing writing materials to pupils, and registering students for WAEC/NECO exams. The Chairmanship Inter Schools Debate/Quiz Competition 2023 aims to encourage academic excellence, and scholarships are awarded to Ukwuani students in tertiary institutions. Also Over 300 Ukwuani youths and women have benefitted from our empowerment programs.

“Partnerships with FADAMA support Ukwuani farmers and flood-affected farmers. Initiatives include providing farm implements, herbicides, fertilizers, and tree planting in collaboration with LifePlus Foundations

“Healthcare programs focus on immunization, disease containment, equipping health centers, and regular review meetings to strengthen the sector. Rehabilitation of health centers is also underway to enhance healthcare services in Ukwuani”.
