The Inner Wheel Club of Garki District 910 has earmarked the sum of N15 million for execution of projects and empowerment of indigent women and children in the rural FCT communities.
Some of the proposed projects include: provision of two water boreholes in rural FCT communities; sensitization of girls and women on personal hygiene and prevention if many menstrual-related infections, drug abuse and general sex education; distribution of palliatives to windows; distribution of customized school.materials to selected schools, payment of school fees of indigent students; payment of hospital bills for sick persons and renovation of schools.
The President of the Club, Chioma John Obeta disclosed this during his installation ceremony as the 31st President in Abuja at the weekend.
She explained that the gesture was in line with the tradition of Inner Wheel to “Shine a Light” by putting smiles on the faces of the less privileged in the society.”
“We have decided to embark on some carefully selected, life-changing projects for the Innerwheel year 2023/2024.
“It is our expectation that the above projects, if successfully executed, would go a long way in generating hope for a happier future and provide better living conditions for the beneficiaries.”
On how to raise the fund, Innerwheel Obeta said the club had begun a fundraising campaign to put together funds required for execution of the projects.
Highpoint of the event was the launch of the Club’s projects and award presentations as well as presentation of empowerment tools to about 10 indigent women with over N1.5m.
In her remarks, the District Chairman, Innerwheel District 910, Adenike Bamisaye extolled the virtues of Obeta in making a significant impact in the lives of those she served.
She urged her to lead the club with the same enthusiasm and vision that have defined her style of leadership.
In her valedictory speech, outgoing President, IWM Jaiyesimi said during her tenure she was able to accomplish various humanitarian projects including in and outside the FCT, and appealed to the club members to extend the same similar support given to her to her successor.
Meanwhile, some of the beneficiaries of the gesture who received grinding machines, sewing machines and other equipment, expressed gratitude to the club for remembering them and promised to put them into productive use and as a revenue generating source to their families.
