Exploring Drake’s “Search & Rescue”

Canadian rapper, singer, and songwriter Aubrey Drake Graham, better known by his stage name Drake, has returned with “Search & Rescue,” his first solo song since 2023 after his collaboration with Popcaan on “We Caa Done,” as well as his solo songs “Honestly, Nevermind,” and “Her Loss”.

Before stopping to concentrate on his rap career, the rapper first rose to fame as an actor in the drama series “Degrassi: The Next Generation” in 2021. The rapper has released a number of albums, including ” Certified Lover Boy”, “So Far Gone”, ” Take Care” ” Scorpion” and ” Dark Lane Demo Tapes.”

As one of the most popular musicians in the music industry today, Drake has consistently delivered hit after hit, and “Search & Rescue” is no exception. “Search & Rescue” is an evidence of Drake’s talent and capacity to produce music that connects with listeners all over the world thanks to its catchy beat and enduring lyrics.

The “Search & Rescue,” which was co-produced by Beautifulmvn, Bnyx, Lil Yachty, Noah “40” Shebib, Sadpony, and Wesley Curtis, involves a conversation between Kim and Kris Jenner from the Keeping Up with the Kardashians on E! Series finale in which Kim talked about her November 2022 divorce from Kanye West.

On April 7, Drake shared a picture of himself and an unidentified woman wearing a motorcycle helmet along with the announcement for his new song, “Search & Rescue,” writing, “SEARCH & RESCUE OUT AT MIDNIGHT ON ALL PLATFORMS.” This picture stirred reactions from fans that Drake used a Kardashian look-alike on the track’s cover.

As of the time of writing this article, the song, “Search & Rescue”, which was uploaded on the American global online video sharing  platform, YouTube, on April 11, gained 4,560,361 views, 5,993 Comments with over 103k likes.

Looking at how the song sampled Kim Kardashian, the glimpse of audio from a conversation in which Kim discussed her marital problems with Kris Jenner came in before the verse line where Kardashian said “I didn’t come this far, just to come this far and not be happy” Jenner replied saying, “Okay, that’s fair. Remember that you didn’t come this far, just to come this far.”  Kardashian then said, “Yep, I saw it on the internet.”

Drake raps the chorus saying, “I need someone to be patient with me/ Someone to get money with, not take it from me, look/They don’t even need to be as famous as me/I don’t think I’ll meet ’em at the places I be (I-I-I)/But deep down I think about you all day, mami/I know I’m a pitbull, but dale, mami/I just wanna take you on a holiday, mami/Say what’s on your mind, I’m a call away, mami. Elsewhere in the song, Drake raps, “Come and rescue me (Woah)/Take me out the club (What?), take me out the trap (I-I-I)Take me off the market, take me off the map/I’m tryna hit the group chat and tell ’em it’s a/Come and rescue me/Take me out the club, take me out the trap/Take me off the market, take me off the map/I’m tryna hit the group chat and tell ’em it’s a wrap.”

Drake looks for “rescue” in his personal life because he wants a committed relationship. “Out the club” and “off the trap” refer to the fact that he is no longer interested in going to places where there is no clear focus; instead, he is searching for a partner with whom to spend the rest of his life. In the sentence “I’m tryna hit the group chat and tell ’em it’s a wrap,” the phrase “its a wrap” is used to indicate completion.

In one of the verses, ”  (I-I-I) Don’t know how to express my love/That’s why I American Expre-e-e-e-e-ss my love for you/I need you, yeah, I really do, tell me what to do (Okay)/Tell me what to do (Okay), tell me what to do/All I know is hit the mall and see what damage I could do (Okay)/I give you the world, but there’s other planets too,” Drake acknowledges that he has difficulty expressing his love and claims that he needs someone to care for him and show him the proper way to do it.
