The Nigerian Youth Parliament has congratulated the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his running mate Kashim Shettima of the All Progressives Congress, over their party’s victory at the just concluded presidential election held on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

In a congratulatory message yesterday, the youth parliament speaker; Rt. Honorable Azeezat Yishawu said: “On behalf of the entire well-meaning Nigerian Youth and the Parliament, we wish to convey our heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his election as President-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

The Speaker urged the president-elect to ensure that he follows his campaign manifesto for young people to the latter and promote unity. She urged Tinubu to begin his reconciliation tour engagement, and extend a hand of cooperation to other political parties.

She said, “The Nigerian Project is a project for every single citizen irrespective of tribe, religion, or political party. I believe without a doubt that the president-elect is capable of unifying the country and delivering on his promise.”

The speaker also congratulated all other members of the National Assembly across various political parties who won their elections, especially women and young people.

According to her, “the journey to make Nigeria a more inclusive society is a long one and young people are key to achieving it.”

Yishawu further commended young people for going out to vote for their preferred candidate without fear and for exercising calmness since the announcement of the result.

According to her, “some people thought young people will unleash chaos after the result was announced, but this didn’t happen. This shows that the usual rhetorics that classify young people as violent and uncivilized is untrue.

“Nigerians are within their rights to have concerns and seek redress on any electoral issues, however, the such method should be through constitutional means. All political parties should address party faithful and supporters to choose cordial means of engagement. I appeal to all the stakeholders to promote peace and to use constitutional means to address any grievances they may have.

Yishawu lauded INEC on its preparation, and conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections, hence, she urged them to learn from feedback and challenges to improve on future elections, especially the forthcoming March 11 governorship and State Assembly polls to further deepen and sustain Nigeria’s unbroken democracy.
